Internet blocks

Wed Dec 9, 2009, 11:18 AM
Yes, another journal about internet blocks. Why? Because most recently, our school put up a site blocker that acts through coding, which takes any information regarding videos, messaging boards, gaming sites and the likes and goes to block them. Somewhat understandable, but yet still very irritating for a lot of people. I was more shocked by the fact that sites like [link] where blocked because of drug related content, yet sites like [link] stayed up.

As I've said before, Erowid is a site based solely on giving non-biased information via a number of articles, books, essays and multiple variations of information related to subjects such as chemistry, pharmacology and the study of certain psychoactive chemicals and plants. Completely harmless. Why is it blocked?

Reason: Abused drugs.

OK? Then why isn't above the influence a banned site? It talks about abused drugs, except it's incredibely biased and is in favor of prohibitionist, but doesn't offer the exact information people need to make an informed decision, it only gives information to make a biased and confused decision towards being anti-drug.

Now, getting to the point of this journal, I got back to school today from numerous days of skipping class, and find that the site blockers have changed.
Facebook is available
Youtube is available
Myspace, sheezyart, deviant art, all previously unavailable, now available

but, erowid and cannabis culture, the two sites I frequent the most for information, blocked.

Which is strange, since cannabis culture was an allowed site before the change in the block, now it's banned because of the simple reason of: Marijuana.

Then by those standards, let's take down stupid.ca, and abovetheinfluence.com, what about drug free america? Those are all still up.

The hypocrisy in this is astounding and shocking at the same time. The blocks are put in place to keep kids from messing around on the computers, yet they decide to unblock all the sites that kids waste time on, and decide to keep blocking the sites with actual information regarding issues in our governments and society today, and instead prompt you to go visit the bias sites that they so quickly approve of.

If that isn't the definition of hypocrisy, then I don't know what is.

People underestimate the artistic value behind language. A man who is fluent in English is a master of his language, but is he an artisan? Those who know the true composition and chemistry of their words, are the true artists of this world. They have mastered the primary instinct of direct communication us humans have, and have twisted it into their own artistic frenzy. Yes, language is a wonderful thing, and without these artisans constantly changing the way we think of our native language, we wouldn't evolve into a different dialect or language, we would stick to the same boring old routine of sounds and expressions we all know very well.
